Today we had a whistle stop tour of the seaside town that is Napier. It’s called the ‘Art Deco capital of the world’ because in 1931 it was completely destroyed by an earthquake, and then rebuilt entirely in Art Deco style. The town centre is really cool and the architecture is amazing. Everything looks so lovely and retro! It pretty much rained non stop today so we made the most of the indoor stuff that you could do for free, including the national aquarium and Napier museum.

Our motel room is amazing too, we lucked out and pretty much got a family suite… including a hot tub!

We spent the evening chilling out at the motel and staying dry from the rain. Luckily we had our own kitchenette too so we cooked a bean chilli for dinner and had a few beers.

Tomorrow is our longest drive so far as we head down to wellington at the bottom of the north island.
