After a night filled with crazy wind and rain we woke up to an aptly grey morning in Greymouth. We checked out of the hostel and went for some breakfast (if you can call pumpkin soup and a chicken satay panini breakfast… Owen & Max’s choices, not mine) at a cafe over the road. We’re heading down the West Coast today and Max is heading up the West Coast, towards Picton where we have just come from. He’s hitch hiking up there so we ended up driving to a good spot (apparently) to catch a lift from and left him standing on the side of the road! I felt really sad leaving him like that haha.

*Luckily we heard from him later on and found that he had made it all the way to Nelson safely.*

We had a pretty hairy journey along the coastal road down to Greymouth because of the huge amount of rain the night before. There was water raging down the cliff side and across the roads, plus logs and rocks and loads of mud.

It wasn’t too bad though as we were through the worst of it after about half an hour and back on track heading toward clearer skies over Greymouth.

We checked in to our hostel (Noah’s Ark) and then had a wander into town before it started POURING with rain. We ran home for a quick snack (free toast with vegemite from the hostel… which is no where near as good as marmite btw) and then ventured out about an hour later once the sun was shining.

Greymouth is a tiny town but it does have its own brewery so we headed there in the evening for a brewery tour and beer tasting. It was really good value cause it was only about 20 dollars and you got 4 free beers as well as a tour. We had a pizza, chips and chicken at the pub in the brewery for dinner and then headed home for the night.
